Homeless say Spokane Police swept them from Browne Street viaduct

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police had at least one person in handcuffs as they appeared to clear people from under the Browne Street overpass in downtown Spokane.

Around 2:30 Friday, Spokane Police cars blocked the east lanes of the viaduct. People were sitting along the sidewalk under the bridge.

When a 4 News Now photographer arrived, several people who had been sitting there were leaving and one of them showed us a warning that they say police had given them.

They said they were unhappy that they weren't able to be under the bridge in the heat.

An hour after police first arrived, the sidewalk was virtually empty.

We've reached out to Spokane Police to see what happened.

We'll update this story with more information as we get it.
