Don’t look now, but the Hops are making a run.

Roman Angelo had 10 strikeouts and Jack Hurley hit his team-leading 11th home run of the season as Hillsboro defeated league-leading Spokane 6-4 on Friday night, Aug. 2, at Avista Stadium in Spokane.

The Hops jumped on the Indians early, getting four runs in the game’s first inning thanks to two walks, two Spokane errors, and a two-RBI-double by Hurley and never looked back.

Angelo’s 10 K’s came over seven innings in which he allowed six hits and two earned runs.

Hurley finished the game 3-for-5 with a home run, which was a two-run shot in the fifth inning, double, three RBI and two runs-scored.

Junior Franco also tallied three hits for Hillsboro, while Gavin Conticello and Tommy Troy added two apiece.

Kyle Karros led the Indians at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run.

Karros increased his season batting average to .324 and his home run was his 13th of the year.

Spokane starting pitcher Connor Staine took the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits over 4.2 innings pitched.

With the win, the Hops pulled within seven games of the first place Indians.

The two teams will play again at 6:35 p.m. tonight at Avista Stadium in Spokane.
