SPOONER — On Tuesday, April 16, the Spooner Rails softball team hosted the Ashland Oredockers. Spooner topped the Oredockers 10-0, winning in five innings.

The winning pitcher in the contest was Annalie Lindgren, throwing all five innings, striking out 9, giving up 1 hit and walking 1 batter.

At the plate, the Rails were led by Layla Thompson, going 4/4 and 1 RBI, and Chloe Swonger, 3/3 and 2 RBIs. Lily Hotchkiss, Devin Danielsen, Lindgren and Peyton Steines all went 2/3 batting. Danielsen had 2 RBIs and Steines had 1 RBI. Sabrina Schwartzbauer was 1/1 at the plate with a triple.

“We hit the ball hard, had some heads-up base running and played some good defense when the ball was put in play,” said Spooner coach Brian Amys. “We did not have an error, which was nice to see. We were hitting the ball 1-9 in the line-up which was encouraging, since we have been struggling the last few games.

“We need to be ready to play, even though it’s early in the season; these next couple of games have huge conference implications and seeding implications for the playoffs. We need to be playing our best ball.”
