    Spooner track and field competes at Amery Invite

    AMERY — The Spooner track and field team competed at the Amery Invitational on Tuesday, April 30. The Rail boys finished eighth, and the girls took a 14th place.

    For the boys, Prescott took first place with a team score of 126. In second place was Grantsburg with 100 team points. The rest of the top 10 were Somerset with 98.5, Ellsworth 79.5, St. Croix Central 78, Amery 45, Turtle Lake/Clayton 39, Spooner 33.5, Glenwood City 33 and Barron 21.5. Boyceville was 11th with 19 points, followed by Frederic/Luck with 15 and Spring Valley 14. Prairie Farm and Valley Christian did not score points in the meet.

    For the girls, Amery took first place with a team score of 123, followed by St. Croix Central 110, Prescott 82, Grantsburg 60.5, Ellsworth 51, Turtle Lake/Clayton 42, Frederic/Luck 39, Somerset 37, Barron 29.5 and Prairie Farm 25.5, rounding out the top 10. Spring Valley was next with 23, Glenwood City 20, Boyceville 10.5 and Spooner 10. Valley Christian did not score.

    Spooner competitors earning first-place finishes included Alyssa Bambenek in the shot put and discus; Luke Popp in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs; and the boys 4x400 relay team.

    Second places went to Theo Kohl in the 800-meter run and Zach Fleishauer in the 1,600-meter run.

    Third places were won by Clare Essenmacher — 800-meter run; Connor Burke — 100-meter dash and 20-meter dash; Fleishauer — 800-meter run; Sean Zwisler — long jump; Cole Larson — high jump; and the boys 4x100 relay team.

    Fourth places went to Sevanna Burke in the 100-meter dash; Brooke Asleson — 3,200-meter run; Hannah Hutton — pole vault; Ethan Young — 400-meter dash; and the girls 4x200 relay team.

    Fifth places went to Essenmacher — 1,600-meter run; Amber Larson — high jump; Jonah Simundson — 400-meter dash; Parker Dolan — high jump; Grant Popp — pole vault; and the girls 4x100 relay team.
