SPOONER — There will be two opportunities for Spooner area students to become Hunter Education-certified in coming months.

The traditional Spooner Hunter Education class will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Indianhead Rifle & Pistol Club (IRPC) at 6:30 p.m. This is a great class for students who have had little or no gun handling/shooting experience. Other class dates are Aug. 17, 20 and 24 at the Spooner IRPC range. Students must enroll on the DNR Go Wild website. Instructors prefer students be at least 11 years old.

A Hunter Education Internet Field Day will be held at the Spooner Indianhead Rifle & Pistol Club on Saturday, Sept. 14. This is a good class for students who have had some gun handling/shooting experience. Course work is done online and only the Field Day needs to be attended. Students must enroll in this class on the DNR Go Wild website. Instructors prefer students be at least 11 years old.

More hunter education information can be found on the Go Wild website.

Students under 18 (minors) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the beginning of the classes to sign the registration form, obtain the course schedule, materials and information and pay a course fee per student. Students who do not already have a DNR Customer Identification Number must obtain one to enroll by calling 888.936.7463, stopping by the DNR Service Center in Spooner or on the DNR Go Wild website.

Students are encouraged to enroll for these classes online at their earliest convenience. Class sizes are limited and may fill in a very short time.

Any questions regarding these classes or hunter education in general may be directed to Gary Dunsmoor, 715.491.0934.
