OJIBWA — On Saturday, Aug. 3, Democratic candidates for the 2024 Primary and General Election will speak to voters at a free brat barbecue and potluck in Ojibwa Park southeast of Hayward (W7911 Hwy. 70, Ojibwa). Invited candidate speakers include Tony Evers, Tammy Baldwin, Ben Wikler, Sarah Rodriguiz, U.S. Seventh Congressional District candidate Kyle Kilbourn, Wisconsin 74th Assembly candidate Jeanne Bruce, Judge Monica Isham, Judge candidate Susan Crawford, Seventh Congressional candidates, District 12 Senate candidate Andi Rich and 35th Assembly candidate Elizabeth McCrank.

According to Nancy Stencil, chair of the Wisconsin Event Congressional District Democratic Party, “The Heart of the 7th C.D. Picnic” has attracted almost every statewide candidate, approximately 150 voters and television news media from as far as the Twin Cities. The site is always chosen because it is near the center of the vast Seventh Congressional District, which includes all or part of 26 counties. Stencil noted, “Ojibwa Park’s old stone picnic shelter and quiet Northwoods ambience makes this one of the most fun and relaxed campaign events of the season. It’s a great way for voters in northern Wisconsin to hear and meet candidates in an up-close and personal way, and most voters in the district can make the drive in less than two hours.”

The event will take place ahead of the Aug. 13 Partisan Primary. Candidates are invited to set up and staff tables with yard signs and literature and visit with voters.

Festivities begin at 1 p.m. with free bratwurst from Whiskey Ridge and a potluck put on by the Sawyer County Lac Court Oreilles Democratic Party and the Seventh Congressional District Democratic Party. The public is encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, bug spray and beverages. Speakers will start around 2 p.m. Come early and enjoy the grounds.
