    Cardinals 10-run Hayward

    SPOONER — On a warm, close July 26, the Spooner Cardinals flexed their muscles as everything came together against the visiting Hayward Hawks. Spooner thumped Hayward 10-0 in Independent League play. Later this week, league playoffs assignments will be announced.

    Spooner took a 1-0 lead over the Hawks in the bottom of the first inning. They increased the number to 4-0 with 3 more runs in the bottom of the third.

    The real damage came in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Cardinals took control, scoring 6 runs to put the contest out of reach. The Spooner bats were hot, putting up 16 hits on the day.

    Josh Davidson was 2-5, scoring 2 runs. Carsen Stenberg was 4-4, with 2 runs and an RBI. Sam Holden went 1-3, with 2 runs and a pair of RBIs. Brandon Shutt was 2-3, with a run and 2 RBIs. Brandon Rangel went 1-4 at the plate, scoring 1 run. Trevor Brimblecom went 3-4 with 1 run and 4 RBIs. Zach Romback was 3-4 with 1 run and an RBI. Romback also had a stolen base. Doubles were hit by Brimblecom (2), Stenberg, Holden and Shutt.

    Brimblecom was strong on the mound, pitching 7 innings for the win. He allowed 0 runs and struck out 8.
