SPOONER — The 2024 Wisconsin Baseball Association baseball assignments have been announced. Those cheering on their hometown Spooner Cardinals should be pleased, as the team will be playing right down the road.

The Cardinals have been placed in Haugen for the opening round of the WBA Regional Playoffs.

The team was seeded No. 15 overall (No. 2 in the pool) and will face the No. 23 Prescott Pirates (No. 3 in pool) on Saturday, Aug. 10, at noon. Spooner will be the home team in the game against Prescott.

The Cardinals’ second game will be played against a fellow perennial WBA title contender, the No. 3 Osseo Merchants.

The game against Osseo will be determined based on results from the Prescott-Spooner game. The loser will face Osseo at approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday night and the winner will face Osseo on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 3 p.m.

Spooner enters the Regional Playoff with a record of 9-6, tied for second with the Brill Millers at 7-5 in the Independent League standings. They are currently riding a three-game winning streak. The Haugen Knights, 9-3 in Indy League play, were league champions for 2024.

Teams in Haugen Pool 1 include the No. 7 Haugen Knights, No. 11 Washburn Sharptails and No. 21 Chippewa Falls Lumberjacks.

In Pool 2 are the No. 3 Osseo Merchants, No. 15 Spooner Cardinals and No. 23 Prescott Pirates.
