SPOONER — On Monday, Sept. 2, the Rolling Hills Snowmobile and ATV Club held its annual picnic at the Railroad Park Pavilion. The event honors the landowners of Washburn County who donate the use of their land for the trail system.

This year celebrated the 50th anniversary of the club. The picnic featured a collection of vintage snowmobiles from the early 1970s. There were numerous raffles and events throughout the day capped off by cash prize drawings of $5,000 total, with the grand prize of $2,500 won by Paul King.

Apart from the cash prizes, the rest of the funds from the ticket drawings went to the work the club does to maintain the trail systems.

The event was attended by approximately 150 people, with the guest of honor being 2024 AWSC (Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs) Brianna Crotteau. In attendance were also four of the original club members from 1974 — Ken Rouse, Reed Scalzo, Ken Staves and Big Mel Johnston.

Rolling Hills maintains over 130 miles of Washburn County’s snowmobile trails and nearly 75 miles of Washburn County’s ATV trails. Information on the club or to join can be found at www.rollinghillssnowmobileandatv.com.
