Best prop odds and picks for 2024 British Open at Royal Troon

Let’s face it: Picking a winning golfer out of a field of 156 golfers is tough no matter the tournament.

Add in the fact this week is the PGA Tour’s final major of 2024, the Open Championship, and the challenge is made a little tougher due to the fact all the big names will be teeing it up.

There’s more. Sportsbooks have had to figure in the return of Tiger Woods into the numbers, as more than a few bettors love to have a couple of bucks on him in some way.

Hence our look at some of the props around this week’s tournament that will provide a little extra excitement for fans. We’re going to check out a variety of sites, and see if we can come up with options that will let bettors cash a ticket or two.

Adam Scott: Top-10 finish at +400 (BetMGM)

We’ve already picked Adam Scott to win in our main British Open betting story at +8000 as our longshot bet.

We’re going to hedge a little, but still make decent money by looking at him to be in the top 10 at +400. Scott hasn’t won since a victory in 2020 when he scored at the Genesis Invitational (the one in California, not across the pond).

But remember, he’s won 14 times on the PGA Tour including the 2013 Masters. The guy just keeps lurking at the top of the leaderboard, and that’s all we need from him here.

Tommy Fleetwood: First-round leader at +4000 (BetMGM)

If you’re looking for a longshot that could pay off--and very quickly consider Tommy Fleetwood to lead after the first round at +4000.

Fleetwood came out firing at last year’s Open Championship and had a 66 over his first 18 holes. He’s coming into the tournament off a disappointing T-35 at last week’s Genesis Scottish Open.

But on the bright side, he did come out with an opening-round 65, so he does have a tendency to get off to a hot start.

At +4000, it would be an early payday and let bettors have a few extra dollars to do live-betting the rest of the tournament.

Sungjae Im: Group win at +360 (DraftKings)

We like Sungjae Im to win in his five-player matchup at +360. Im is in the group with Justin Thomas, Tom Kim, Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Im, who plays just about every week, is coming in here off a T-4 in last week’s Genesis Scottish Open, so his game is on track.

For the year, Im doesn’t have a victory. But what he does have is six top-10s in 20 made cuts. And Im wound up T-20 in last year’s Open Championship, so it doesn’t seem to matter where he plays around the world. He’s in the picture when it comes to Sunday.

Scheffler and Schauffele: Both finish in top-five at +500 (DraftKings)

Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are two of the hottest golfers in 2024. At +500, we love the fact both just have to finish in the top five to cash in.

For the year, Scheffler has 10 top-five finishes (including an astounding six victories) while Schauffler has six top-five finishes to go along with one victory.

Bet this one quickly. It may be going down in odds as we speak.

Aberg, DeChambeau & Morikawa: All to finish in top 10 at +1800 (FanDuel)

Granted, this is a flyer bet of huge proportions, but the way the trio of Ludvig Aberg, Bryson DeChambeau (most of the time) and Collin Morikawa are playing, it’s well worth the gamble.

Aberg has been oh-so-close to picking up that second PGA Tour win. He’s ranked No. 4 in the world in just his second year on Tour, and he’s posted six top-10s in 2024 alone.

DeChambeau is more than holding his own on the LIV Tour and turns his game up a notch when he gets the chance to play PGA Tour major events.

Morikawa keeps his name high on the first page of the leaderboard week-in and week-out. He’s recorded six straight tournaments where he’s been T-14 or better including four top-five finishes (a T-2, a solo fourth and two T-4s).

Victor Perez: Top-10 finish at +1000 (FanDuel)

Victor Perez comes into the week off a T-10 at the Genesis Scottish Open.

Not bad considering he’s 72nd in the world golf rankings. He’s only got three top-10s in his 12 cuts made in 2024 PGA Tour play. But here’s the good news: All three have come at events outside the United States.

He was T-3 at the Puerto Rico Open, solo third at the RBC Canadian Open and then T-10 last week at the Genesis in Scotland.

If we’re not mistaken, this event is outside of the United States, and we love our chances.
