The Big 12 Conference might not know it yet, but there’s a ringer on the recruiting trail in the form of new Houston head coach Willie Fritz.

Fritz, who was hired to replace Dana Holgorsen, has succeeded at every stop of his career and is getting his first opportunity on the Power Four level at 64 years old — and he’s getting to do so in perhaps the most fertile recruiting ground in the country.

Houston landed another win on the recruiting trail with a commitment from Bunkie (La.) High School cornerback Kyle Johnson on July 13 Johnson, 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds, had 1,031 all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior in 2023, including a school-record 10 touchdown receptions.

From 247Sports : “Talented athlete with multi-phase experience and a three-sport athletic profile. Plays larger than listed size. Possesses strong verified athleticism in the form of a 10.90 100 and 22.16 200 … Could realistically play either way in college, as well as multiple spots in the secondary.”
