On Thursday, the Chicago White Sox made a major change, announcing the firing of manager Pedro Grifol.

Grifol was hired after the 2022 season but was never able to get the White Sox going during his tenure as the team's manager. The team owns a record of 28-89. He replaced Hall-of-Famer Tony La Russa, who had led the South Siders to a 93-win season and a division title in 2021.

Shortly after the firing of Grifol, the team announced a few more coaching changes.

"The Chicago White Sox have announced that current Major League Coach Grady Sizemore will serve as the team's interim manager for the remainder of the 2024 season," the team said in a statement.

The White Sox also promoted Doug Sisson as bench coach, Justin Jirschele as third base coach and Make Gellinger as the assistant hitting coach, while dismissing Charlie Montoyo, Eddie Rodriguez, and Mike Tosar, who previously held the three respective positions.

The team lost 101 games last season under Grifol and haven't made any improvements this year. In fact, they suffered through a long 21-game losing streak.

That skid matched the 1988 Baltimore Orioles for the longest in American League history, and it ultimately led to Grifol being let go on Thursday.

The White Sox are expected to have a permanent replacement for Grifol by the end of the 2024 season. We'll see if Sizemore is ultimately the one to keep the job or if they'll find somebody different.
