The Detroit Lions dropped their preseason opener on Thursday night against the New York Giants , 14-3, and saw a handful of players come down with injuries, including quarterback Hendon Hooker.

Hooker made his preseason debut in the third quarter and played for a few drives before exiting early. Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed after the game that Hooker suffered a concussion and is in the protocol.

Hooker had a solid showing before exiting the contest. He completed 5-of-9 passes for 36 yards and carried the ball four times for 34 yards. Hooker showed poise in the pocket and was decisive, making it a good performance overall.

One of his drives was a went 88 yards on 14 plays, but it ended up stalling at the Giants' three-yard line after a failed fourth-down attempt.

His most impressive play came when he ran over a defender for a first-down run. That may have also been the play in which he suffered the injury, but we can't say for sure. Hooker ended up finishing the drive.

Along with Hooker, defensive lineman David Bada (Achilles), offensive lineman Connor Galvin (knee), wide receiver Antoine Green (concussion) and linebacker James Houston (knee) also came down with injuries.

Galvin's and Bada's may be long term, Campbell revealed. Galvin got his leg rolled up on and needed the cart.

Houston was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his knee.
