White Sox legend gives sales pitch on how to rebuild organization

The Chicago White Sox made a key decision on Thursday, firing manager Pedro Grifol after the team had compiled a 28-89 record.

The team had lost 21 consecutive games and tied the American League record previously set by the 1988 Baltimore Orioles.

Former White Sox star A.J. Pierzynski discussed on Foul Territory how he would approach the managerial role if he got the call.

"We're starting over. You've got to find some way to get outside of what everyone else is doing," Pierzynski said. "The Rays have kind of gotten outside of what everyone else is doing and now everyone wants a piece of that. What can you do to get outside and in front of everything that everybody else is doing? You have to figure that out and start from the ground up and build your organization to a point where you can be a consistent winner."

The White Sox obviously have a lot of work to do if they want to become a winning organization again. They haven't won a World Series title since 2005, and their run to an AL Central title in 2021 feels like a lifetime ago.

Pierzynski gave a good example of how to build a consistent winner, citing the Tampa Bay Rays and the way they operate. Perhaps the White Sox could take a page out of their book in order to build a winner.

The White Sox recently tapped Grady Sizemore to be the interim manager for the remainder of the 2024 season. They are expected to have a long-term replacement by the end of the year.

Pierzynski could be somebody they take a look at. He spent eight years with the team from 2005-12 and was part of their World Series team. He would be an interesting choice if they decide to go that route.
