The United States is golden in men's basketball once again.

Team USA has won its fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal after Stephen Curry's fourth-quarter takeover led his country past France in a battle, 98-87.

France's defense stepped up late and cut the deficit as close as three points, but Curry played hero to put the game to bed. He had a vintage flurry with four 3-pointers in the final minutes, including a double-teamed heave to lift Team USA to the top of the podium.

It was over as soon as Curry hit his signature "night-night" celebration going down the other end of the floor.

Curry finished with 24 points on eight 3-pointers to combat an impressive 26 points from French phenom Victor Wembanyama.

    Final: USA 98, France 87

5:18 p.m.: The United States has done it. A fifth-consecutive gold medal for the Americans behind 24 points and eight 3-pointers from Stephen Curry. His flurry in the fourth quarter will end up being one of the signature moments of his illustrious career.

Credit to France, which gave Team USA everything it could handle. Victor Wembanyama had a game-high 26 points in an incredible effort from the future face of the NBA. What a game.

5:15 p.m.: STEPHEN CURRY ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! That's four consecutive 3-pointers to put France away — the last over a double-team in the final minute. He hit his signature "night-night" celebration to put the crowd to sleep.

Team USA is going to win this game, leading 98-87 with 16 seconds to play.

5:13 p.m.: STEPHEN CURRY! The star guard is trying to put this game away with three straight 3-pointers to give Team USA a 93-84 lead with a minute and a half to go. He has a team-high 24 points and eight (!) triples.

5:09 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama had a big putback to bring the game within three but Stephen Curry answered right back with a triple to put Team USA up 85-79 with two and a half minutes to go.

5:06 p.m.: Multiple United States turnovers have kept France alive. Nando De Colo got a layup off of one giveaway and Guerschon Yabusele hit one of two free throws after getting fouled in transition off another. USA leads France 82-77 with 3:32 remaining.

5:00 p.m.: Few things are as smooth as a Kevin Durant jumper. He knocks down a triple to get Team USA going in the fourth quarter.

End of third quarter: USA 72, France 66

4:46 p.m.: France snuck in a quick five points at the end of the quarter to cut the deficit to six going into the final frame. Evan Fournier hit a 3-pointer and then Nando De Colo stole a lazy pass from Anthony Edwards and took it the other way for a layup at the buzzer.

Victor Wembanyama's 20 points and Guerschon Yabusele's 19 points are powering France. LeBron James and Stephen Curry have 12 points apiece and James leads the team with seven assists.

4:44 p.m.: A cool moment as Anthony Edwards' favorite player, Kevin Durant, throws him a lob in the gold medal game.

4:43 p.m.: Victor Wembanyama just hit a timely 3-pointer to keep France from unraveling. France cuts Team USA's lead to nine, 65-56, with 3:20 to play in the quarter. Wembanyama has been as good as advertised with 20 points, six rebounds and two assists.

4:34 p.m.: Stephen Curry is starting to heat up from 3-point range. LeBron James hit him on a smooth left-handed skip pass for an open look and minutes later, James dished it to Curry for another open 3. Their pick-and-roll two-man game is giving France fits.

Team USA leads France 61-47 with 6:57 to play in the third quarter. Curry is up to 12 points with four 3-pointers.

    Halftime: USA 49, France 41

4:13 p.m.: The United States started to pull away late in the second quarter but Guerschon Yabusele got a crafty layup to drop at the buzzer to bring France within single digits.

Yabusele was incredible in the first half with 15 points. Victor Wembanyama set the tone for Les Bleus with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Devin Booker continues to play his role perfectly for Team USA with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and two 3-pointers. LeBron James added five rebounds, two assists and two steals, looking like the best player on the floor.

4:05 p.m.: GUERSCHON YABUSELE! The French forward just posterized LeBron James, who stepped in to take a charge but was called for a block. He has a team-high 12 points to continue his strong play as of late.

3:59 p.m.: LeBron James bullied his way to the paint, pulled out a beautiful spin move and finished through contact to give Team USA a 37-31 lead with 3:26 left in the half. He hit his now-signature shoulder roll in front of the France bench after, letting his opponent know he's still a physical force to be reckoned with.

3:54 p.m.: The United States scored four quick points but France responded with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to one, 24-23. Matthew Strazel just banked in a 3-pointer to force a Team USA timeout with 7:10 remaining in the half.

End of first quarter: USA 20, France 15

3:49 p.m.: The United States leads by five after a highlight-packed first quarter.

Devin Booker has a team-high seven points and Anthony Edwards knocked down a pair of 3s off the bench to lead Team USA. Victor Wembanyama has found a groove offensively, scoring seven points with one 3-pointer in the first frame.

3:42 p.m.: After not seeing the floor at all against Serbia, Jayson Tatum is one of the first subs off the bench against France. He just ran the floor for an easy dunk off a LeBron James steal. Team USA leads France 16-13 with two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

3:40 p.m.: This behind-the-back pass from LeBron James to Devin Booker is worth another look.

3:37 p.m.: The energy is through the roof on both sides. LeBron James pinned Guerschon Yabusele off the glass and led to a Kevin Durant 3-pointer on the other end. A few possessions later, Victor Wembanyama got Joel Embiid on a mean hesitation dribble for an easy dunk. The stars are showing out.

3:33 p.m.: We have an electrifying start at Bercy Arena. LeBron James looked like a runaway freight train for a dunk, Victor Wembanyama responded with a 3-pointer, and then James had a drive and dish for a Devin Booker triple. We're in for a slugfest of a gold medal match.

    Pregame

3:20 p.m.: France will stick with its Rudy Gobert-less starting lineup: Frank Ntilikina, Isaia Cordinier, Nicolas Batum, Guerschon Yabusele and Victor Wembanyama.

3:15 p.m.: USA Basketball makes the starting lineup change official: Kevin Durant in, Jrue Holiday out.

2:30 p.m.: An hour out until tip-off and LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama are the first two players to take the floor.

1:00 p.m.: USA head coach Steve Kerr will start Kevin Durant over Jrue Holiday in the gold medal game. Durant will join the regular starters — Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, LeBron James and Joel Embiid. You can read more about Kerr's decision and how it'll impact the game and lineups here .
