The Miami Dolphins just can’t catch a break along the offensive line in front of Tua Tagovailoa.

The latest? Veteran offensive lineman Kion Smith is likely out for the season due to a torn ACL suffered Friday night in the preseason opener.

Smith penciled in as a primary backup at guard and played that left spot against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday before suffering the injury.

Over the weekend, the Dolphins shifted Smith to injured reserve and re-signed Chasen Hines. The team had waived Hines less than a week before this new move and will now lean on the former sixth-round pick, who spent last year on the practice squad, as depth.

This is merely the latest setback for the unit. Starting center Aaron Brewer is week-to-week with an injury to his snapping hand. Fellow interior lineman Isaiah Wynn remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Miami now continues its preseason while attempting to sort out the interior depth chart. Robert Jones remains one starter at a guard spot, but the team might have to consider moving Liam Eichenberg to center with Brewer out.

Either way, the team remains thin on the interior and Hines will get a chance to prove he can compete with the likes of Matthew Jones as depth. But one has to think, especially after the team worked out veterans like Scott Quessenberry just last week, that the Dolphins will make further roster moves soon.
