The Detroit Lions haven't had 2024 sixth-round pick and guard Christian Mahogany in the building for quite some time as he's dealt with an unspecified illness.

However, Mahogany was finally back in the building on Sunday as the team returned to practice following its preseason Week 1 loss to the New York Giants , head coach Dan Campbell revealed.

But Mahogany won't be back at practice right away, Campbell added. Instead, he will attend meetings and the team will wait until he's in a good place physically before reassessing when he'll return to the practice field.

Mahogany has yet to take part in a single practice of training camp, so it only makes sense to ease him back in. It remains unclear what illness kept him out this long, but thankfully he looks to be doing better.

The Boston College product will now turn his attention to getting back on the field and trying to carve out a depth role for himself. We'll see if he can get back in time to take part in one of the team's final two preseason games, although it seems unlikely that he'll be ready to go by this week's contest.

The Lions will return to the field in preseason Week 2 when they travel to Arrowhead to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs .
