Yankees superstar likely to sign contract of 'more than half a billion dollars'

The sweepstakes for New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto don't begin until the season ends, but it's going to dominate the headlines.

With roughly a month-and-a-half remaining in the regular season, the Yankees are positioning themselves to make a run for the top seed in the American League playoff race.

That can go a long way in their hopes to re-sign Soto, who is expected to get a contract of "more than half a billion dollars," according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic .

"Juan Soto has been a game-changer for the Yankees this season and appears headed for a top-five finish in the American League MVP voting. He’s likely to sign a contract of more than half a billion dollars and both New York teams are expected to bid for his services," Bowden wrote.

While Soto's teammate Aaron Judge is currently the favorite to win the MVP award, Soto himself is enjoying an incredible season.

Entering Monday, Soto is slashing .304/.429./.589 with 30 home runs, 82 RBI and a 181 OPS+. He also has 95 walks and 24 doubles.

The Yankees are going to have to open their checkbook for Soto, which is something they should eagerly be doing. The combination of Soto and Judge is the exact type of foundation that can make a deep playoff run.

We'll see what happens with Soto in a few months, but the 25-year-old is going to sign a massive deal.
