Could Guardians reunite with veteran hurler? Move would make perfect sense

The Cleveland Guardians have been one of the better teams in baseball this year.

Cleveland entered the 2024 season without high expectations but has been fantastic. The Guardians currently sit atop the American League Central standings with a great 69-49 record but could use some pitching ahead of the playoffs.

The Guardians were in the news ahead of the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline and were linked to a handful of hurlers. There still are some options out there that could help and one could be a reunion with veteran hurler Rich Hill.

Hill has played for almost every team in baseball, including the Guardians. He spent the 2013 campaign with Cleveland and served in a bullpen role. He appeared in 63 games and had a 6.28 ERA.

Overall, he is a 19-year veteran and has a 4.01 ERA in 382 total appearances. He has been both a starter and a reliever throughout his career and could help Cleveland out in either spot down the stretch.

He is looking for a new opportunity and Cleveland is one of the top contenders in the American League. If the Guardians are looking for a way to improve down the stretch, reaching out to someone like Hill could help in a big way.

The Guardians are running out of time to make more additions and at this point the free agent market is thin. Hill arguably is the best player out there and is coming off a season where he had a 5.41 ERA in 32 total appearances last year with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres.
