Why Mookie Betts refuses to stay with Dodgers teammates in Milwaukee

The Los Angeles Dodgers got Mookie Betts back for their series against the Milwaukee Brewers ... sort of.

Betts has been on the IL since breaking his hand when he was hit by a pitch against the Kansas City Royals on June 16. He made his return to the lineup Monday night, batting second and playing right field for LA.

While Betts is back in the lineup at his natural position , he isn't fully back with the Dodgers just yet. According to the Los Angeles Times' Mike DiGiovanna, Betts isn't staying at the team hotel in Milwaukee for a second consecutive year.

The Dodgers are staying at the Pfister Hotel, a 130-year-old building that is haunted according to local legend.

WUWM in Milwaukee noted St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez, actor Joey Lawrence and rapper Megan Thee Stallion are among the celebrities and athletes who have experience hauntings by the ghost that haunts the Pfister Hotel.

Betts, according to DiGiovanna, wants no part of a ghost and opts instead to stay at an Air BnB when the club visits Milwaukee.

It's hard to blame Betts for wanting to distance himself from any potentially bad vibes given that he hasn't played in nearly two months. Whether ghosts actually exist matters less than the psyche of the player. If Betts needs to stay off site in order to focus and get ready to play in games, then so be it. The Dodgers will need him to be at his best to take down the National League Central leaders.
