"A team that looks lifeless": Cardinals insider slams team amid slump

The St. Louis Cardinals seem to be on their way to rock bottom.

With their 4-1 loss on Tuesday night to the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis fell to 60-60 on the season. It's the first time they've hit the .500 mark since June 20.

They remain 7 1/2 games back in the National League Central, but fell to 3 1/2 games back in the Wild Card race. With a tough schedule coming up, things aren't looking good.

On Twitter, Cardinals insider Brandon Kiley slammed the team for their poor play as of late.

"Show me a team that's not hitting, and I'll show you a team that appears lifeless," Kiley wrote. "A bad offense generally leads to boring (aka lifeless) baseball. That's the Cardinals right now.

For all the talk of the pitching overhaul St. Louis needed last offseason, not much was made about the lackluster offense, which was a problem in 2023 when they went 71-91 and finished in last place.

This season, the pitching has been better, but the offense has been holding them back. Their franchise cornerstones, Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado, can no longer be relied upon to carry the team.

Because of their recent struggles and a tough schedule in the future, it might be safe to assume that the Cardinals could use the waiver wire to get rid of certain players and make them available for teams in contention.

The Cards are still in the mix, but they are quickly falling apart, and they appear to be headed towards another season out of the postseason, as well as potentially a second consecutive losing season.
