The Detroit Lions have reportedly dodged a bullet when it comes to second-year running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who suffered a hamstring injury at practice this week.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz , Gibbs' hamstring injury isn't considered serious and the Alabama product is expected to be ready for the Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams .

"Good news on #Lions Pro Bowl RB Jahmyr Gibbs," Schultz wrote. "Sources say the hamstring injury he suffered is not considered significant, but the team will be very cautious with rest and rehab to make sure he’s 100% healthy.

"My understanding is he should be ready for Week 1 vs. the Rams."

Schultz's report comes on the heels of head coach Dan Campbell revealing earlier in the day that he expects Gibbs to be fine .

The Lions will play their first game of the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 8, which gives Gibbs about three and a half weeks to get right. In the mean time, don't expect to see him in either of the last two preseason games or practice.

Gibbs is coming off a fantastic rookie season that saw him tally 1,261 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns despite missing two games with a hamstring injury. He finished with 945 rushing yards and was voted to the Pro Bowl.

Gibbs is slated to have a bigger role in the passing game in 2024 but figures to keep splitting work on the ground with fellow back David Montgomery. He's going to be a key member of the Lions' offense.
