NFL analyst urges Buccaneers to trade for Jets’ Haason Reddick

The situation between the New York Jets and edge rusher Haason Reddick took a turn for the worse earlier this week, as the talented pass rusher formally requested a trade from the team. Reddick is unhappy with his contract situation and feels like he has out-performed his salary, and wants a raise. The Jets, at least to this point, have been unwilling to grant Reddick that raise.

This scenario isn’t abnormal in the NFL . What is abnormal about this situation in particular is how we got here. Reddick’s contract disappointment predates his tenure with the Jets. It goes back to his time with the Philadelphia Eagles . Reddick wanted a pay raise then, and the Eagles were unwilling to give him one. They put Reddick on the trade market, and the Jets bit, without having a new deal in place with Reddick.

While the situation seems entirely predictable from the outside, it has come to a head nonetheless. Reddick is unhappy and wants out of New York, and one NFL analyst thinks the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should throw their hat in the ring for Reddick’s services.

Bleacher Report’s NFL analyst Alex Kay recently identified several landing spots for some key players who may find themselves in a different uniform before the season starts. He believes the Bucs situation at pass rusher necessitates an interest in Reddick. Tampa has the cap space to give Reddick the contract he wants, and they’re currently heading into the season with Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and YaYa Diaby as their primary pass rushers.

Both Tryon-Shoyinka and Diaby are young and talented, but both players are dealing with injuries, and neither has managed to put up a double-digit sack season in their careers. In contrast, Reddick is healthy coming in and has had four straight seasons of 10+ sacks. New York has made it clear they’re not interested in trading Reddick right now. But if that changes, the Bucs could make for a great landing spot.
