Tottenham could revisit their previous transfer interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Spurs are expected to bolster their engine room following the departure of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on a season long loan to Marseille and Gallagher remains available.

A deal broke down between the two clubs earlier this summer as Chelsea reportedly refused to lower their £45m ($58m) asking price for the England international.

New Blues Enzo Maresca has been open on his willingness to let Gallagher to leave, to raise further transfer funds, and take a positive step towards meeting Premier League financial rules.

However, an expected move to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid has faltered , and Spurs are back in the picture for the 24-year-old according to former defender Alan Hutton.

"It’s one I think they’ll be monitoring. I think Gallagher comes into the team and probably starts", he stated in an interview with Football Insider .

"Gallagher might not be in Chelsea’s plans moving forward, so there's a deal to be had, and that’s something I think Daniel Levy would like."

Chelsea were reliant on a host of factors to secure a sale, but Samu Omorodion's failed move from Atletico to Chelsea removed a key piece in the saga , and a player-swap between Gallagher and Joao Felix remains unclear.

The Blues are rumoured to have accepted a lower fee from the Spanish capital for Gallagher, in the region of £34m ($44m), and that will be a fresh starting point.

With Atletico unable to afford their previous fee, as Omorodion stays put in Madrid, a trade with Felix is their only option but Tottenham have money to spend in a reduced deal.
