New York Jets' former $45 million man signs with Dallas Cowboys

The New York Jets had high hopes for defensive end Carl Lawson back in 2021.

The Jets signed the free agent to a three-year contract reportedly worth $45 million, but Lawson tore his Achilles prior to the season and never lived up to the expectations. After New York made him a gameday inactive on 11 occasions in 2023, Lawson has finally found a new team.

According to a report by NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to terms with Lawson.

In his last season as a Jet, Lawson played 101 defensive snaps, finishing with five tackles and no sacks. It was a dramatic drop-off from his 2022 performance when he played all 17 games and logged 7.0 sacks coming off Achilles surgery.

Lawson is one of three departures from last year's Jets defensive ends rotation. Homegrown product Bryce Huff left for the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency and the team subsequently traded away John Franklin-Myers to the Denver Broncos .

New York added Pro Bowler Haason Reddick via trade, but that move hasn't worked out so well. Holding out of training camp, Reddick is in a contract standoff with Gang Green .

While Jermaine Johnson has one side locked down , the Jets' other starting edge rusher spot is wide open.
