Barcelona linked with former UCL winner as low-cost Nico Williams alternative

Barcelona are reportedly looking at one final transfer move before the La Liga window shuts on August 30.

The Catalan giants are expected to miss out in their pursuit of Athletic Club winger Nico Williams with the Spain star opting to remain in Bilbao for at least another year.

Hansi Flick has already secured a deal to bring in Williams' Euro 2024 winning teammate Dani Olmo but the former Bayern Munich head coach wants another wide player.

Striker Robert Lewandowski has openly voiced his desire to bring in a winger to create chances but Barcelona are working to a tight budget following the arrival of Olmo.

As per reports from Spanish outlet Diario AS , the club are considering following an old pattern of signing experienced players on free transfers, to bolster their squad.

Croatian winger Ivan Perisic has emerged as a free option following his explosive departure from Hadjuk Split.

Perisic agreed an extension until the end of the 2024/25 season earlier this summer, but after a high-profile disagreement with manager Gennaro Gattuso, he has left the club.

Flick has reportedly reached out to his former Bayern player, with a 12 month contract offer, which would offer cover for the months ahead and allow for a renewed Williams bid in 2025
