Unretired former New York Jets' receiver pursuing NFL comeback

The New York Jets appear to be standing pat at the wide receiver position while a former starter is reportedly pursuing an NFL comeback.

After the Jets released the former first-round draft pick from their Reserve/Retired list this past March, Corey Davis has made himself available on the free-agent market. On Wednesday evening, ESPN's Field Yates reported that Davis participated in a tryout with the Buffalo Bills .

The Bills have recently signed receivers Damiere Byrd and Deon Cain to their 90-man roster, but there has been no word if an agreement is in the works for Davis.

Meanwhile, the Jets are banking on a full recovery by Mike Williams and a resurgence from Allen Lazard as big-body pass-catchers. Williams and Davis have similar attributes, especially when it comes to stretching the field.

The 29-year-old Davis averaged 15.6 yards per reception over 22 games as a Jet. In 2022, he recorded first downs on 28 of his 32 catches.

Davis, the No. 5 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, played out his rookie contract with the Tennessee Titans before landing with the Jets in 2021. He missed four games due to an MCL sprain in 2022 before stepping away from football last summer.

After multiple excused absences from practice, Davis informed the Jets that he was leaving the team for personal reasons about one calendar year ago.
