Orioles land veteran hurler on minor league deal, per insider

The Baltimore Orioles have been one of Major League Baseball's best teams in 2024. They currently sit just a half-game back of the New York Yankees for the top spot in the American League East.

They also currently lead the Wild Card race.

The team added a few pitchers at the trade deadline to prepare for the stretch run of the season. However, they weren't done adding just yet, and according to Jon Heyman , they've brought in some depth.

"Matt Bowman is signing minor league deal with Orioles," Heyman tweeted. "Upward mobility clause on August 22. Opt-out on August 28. $1 million MLB salary."

Bowman began his MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016, emerging as a key piece in their bullpen. He also spent time with the Cincinnati Reds in 2019.

Following a four-year layoff, Bowman pitched with the Yankees in 2023, and he has bounced around between several organizations this year. The 33-year-old has spent time with the Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Seattle Mariners.

The veteran right-hander now gets a fresh start with the Orioles. In 10 appearances this season, Bowman has posted a 5.40 ERA over 15 innings of work.

He'll have a chance to make it to the Major League roster with the Orioles later this month. It will be interesting to see if he remains with Baltimore for the rest of the season or ends up with another organization.

If he does not stay in Baltimore, he will have spent time in five separate organizations this season.
