During the New England Patriots ' first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, third-overall pick Drake Maye played just one series, which was confusing to many.

On Thursday, the team is set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in their second and final preseason game at Gillette Stadium this year. And, while head coach Jerod Mayo said that the rookie quarterback will see more action in this one, just what does that really mean?

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer , New England's plan for the quarterbacks in this contest is to give presumed starter Jacoby Brissett the first quarter. Maye will follow and play the second and into the third with Joe Milton playing the rest of the third and into the fourth. Bailey Zappe, who played the most against Carolina, will finish it out.

Mayo mentioned not wanting to play Maye without the starting offensive line in the game, so it will be interesting to see who he's on the field with against the Eagles and for how long.

As the Patriots prepare for the future, Maye should be getting as many reps as he can so he can actually learn and progress to the level that he's a capable starter in this league.
