Aaron Rodgers latest injury news: Will Jets QB play in preseason?

As of last week, Jets head coach Robert Saleh says he has had "preliminary discussions" with Rodgers pertaining to a potential appearance in the team's third preseason game against the Giants. Saleh also mentioned Rodgers would be included in conversations on the matter with the coordinators and general manager Joe Douglas.

The 40-year-old quarterback publicized his opinion on whether he should play in the preseason Tuesday while speaking with WFAN's Morning Show.

“I don’t think I need to [play preseason],” Rodgers said. “As long as I’m making the right reactions in practice…that’s important. There’s maybe a little change in speed and mindset because you can get hit, but preseason is not real football. It’s different.”

While Saleh hasn't officially confirmed nor denied whether Rodgers will suit up against the Jets' cross-town foes, it doesn't seem like the prospect is likely.

Will Aaron Rodgers be ready for Week 1 of the regular season?

Returning from an Achilles injury is not easy, and Rodgers' age only makes the process more difficult. That being said, barring unforeseen circumstances, he is expected to start for the Jets against the 49ers in their Week 1 matchup.

The quarterback has not been limited in practices since organized team activities began in May. One year from the time of his injury, Rodgers will likely return to the field and attempt to take the Jets to the postseason for the first time in over 13 years.
