The Boston Red Sox have been playing for nearly four months without first baseman Triston Casas due to torn cartilige in his ribs, but the wait appears to be over.

According to MassLive's Chris Cotillo , the Red Sox are expected to activate Casas on Friday for their matchup against the Baltimore Orioles.

Dom Smith has done a solid job filling in for Casas, hitting .237 with a .706 OPS, six home runs and 34 RBIs. However, the fan favorite will have to take a seat for the 24-year-old.

In the 22 games that Casas played before the injury, he hit .244 with an .857 OPS, six home runs and 10 RBIs. Casas hit .300 with a .954 OPS, one home run and seven RBIs in his 11-game rehab stint with Triple-A Worcester.

His return could provide a spark for an offense that desperately needs it down the stretch, as they look to make the postseason.
