Ex-Dodgers Hurler Reportedly 'Close' To Signing To Deal With Red Sox

One former member of the Los Angeles Dodgers is nearing a return to the big leagues.

Former Dodgers hurler Rich Hill now is 44 years old and is looking to make a big leagues return and is "close" to signing a deal with the Boston Red Sox, according to MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo.

"Stop us if you’ve heard this before: The Red Sox and Rich Hill are close to agreeing on a contract," Cotillo said. "A baseball source confirmed that the sides were moving toward an agreement Thursday night with the expectation that a deal to bring the 44-year-old back to his hometown organization will soon be finalized. WEEI’s Rob Bradford first reported that the Red Sox and Hill are finalizing a minor league contract."

Hill is a 19-year veteran who has spent time with pretty much every Major League Baseball team. He spent three-plus seasons with the Dodgers from 2016 through 2019 and impressed with a 3.16 ERA in 69 appearances -- including 68 starts.

Los Angeles has been a rumored landing spot for Hill over the last few weeks but it sounds like he is going to land with Boston for his fourth stint with the club.

The Dodgers could've used him thanks to their high number of injuries this year. He could've helped as a starter or out of the bullpen but he comes from and lives in the Boston area so it isn't too surprising to see him wanting to work close to home.

Los Angeles still is in a good spot but should be keeping all of its options open at this point.
