Conference realignment is part of what makes this season a new era of college football. A new 12-team playoff format will also begin this year, with the four highest conference champions receiving a first-round bye.

The Big Ten will have four new teams added to the conference this year from the West Coast: USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. With Oregon and USC winning their respective bowl games and Washington winning the national championship last year, it’s obvious the conference has gotten much more competitive.

As a neutral Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan, iconic actor Vince Vaughn wants to see how the conference will play out this season.

“It’s crazy that last year the Pac-12 was the strongest it’s been in forever with Washington going to the big show,” Vaughn said Friday afternoon on The Pat McAfee Show. “As a final goodbye, it was {the} Pac-12 and Big Ten there in the finals. But now that it’s here, I gotta say I’m a little excited to see these matchups during the season.”

There sure will be some incredible matchups throughout the season. However, one that everyone has circled on their calendar will be Oct. 12, when Ohio State travels out west to take on the Oregon Ducks in Eugene.

It’s a game that pins the two favorites to win the conference against each other, giving the winner a much easier route to Indianapolis for the Big Ten championship.

Another intriguing game on the schedule comes on Sept. 21 when Lincoln Riley and USC travel to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan at The Big House. It will be USC’s first Big Ten game and should be an excellent test for new quarterback Miller Moss in a very hostile environment.

Adding four prestigious schools to the conference will bring out the best in the 14 other teams, and it will surely be a dogfight to see which two teams will play in Lucas Oil Stadium in mid-December.
