New York Giants star rookie Malik Nabers has been battling an ankle over the last week in what was a scary moment during training camp practice.

Fortunately, the Giants and Nabers avoided any major injury. The No. 6 overall pick was diagnosed with a mild ankle sprain and was considered day-to-day with the injury.

However, there was some encouraging news Thursday when Nabers returned to practice ahead of Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans .

After getting through that practice without issue, Nabers reportedly will play with the starters against the Texans, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network .

This is big news for the Giants offense. Nabers has already proven himself to be a catalyst in the passing game. Any absence would be a massive detriment to the entire unit.

While NFL teams have proceeded with caution when it comes to injuries during the preseason, the Giants need Nabers and starting quarterback Daniel Jones to get on the same page as much as they can before the season starts.

That connection is going to take some time to build, especially since Jones only participated in individual and 7-on-7 drills during the spring as he worked his way back from a torn ACL.

Jones is slated to make his preseason debut in a return to game action for the first time since the injury happened in November.

Both players are healthy now, though, and fans will get a quick glimpse of the duo working together when the Giants visit the Texans.
