Erling Haaland took just 18 minutes to open his goalscoring account for the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

The defending champions Manchester City kicked off their campaign with three points after a trip to Stamford Bridge.

Mateo Kovacic scored City's second goal against his former club to seal the deal which forced Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly to leave his seat, embodying an "I'm out" meme.

Many Chelsea fans followed suit and questions remain about their style and time may be short for Enzo Maresca, especially with Boehly's visible frustration.

Haaland was then interviewed after the game on Sky Sports where he discussed his goal in insane detail after failing to score against Robert Sanchez last year.

City's striker said: "I don't know if you remember last year, [Robert] Sanchez had a great save on me, because he always stays a lot on the line, that’s why I took a few extra touches. Then he’s rushing out and I knew exactly what to do. I think it was a really good goal.

"I remember his save for the last year, it’s been irritating me for a long time. So that’s why I took a couple of extra touches. It was a perfect goal. It was a nice goal...

And that's exactly what he did as he bulldozed past Marc Cucurella to slot the ball past the Chelsea goalkeeper perfectly.

The Norwegian striker then spoke about what the win meant to the squad: "Three points, perfect start. First game is always hard for everyone, it doesn’t matter if you have a pre-season or not.

"I had a long pre-season so that’s good. I don’t actually feel perfect, I’m not in the perfect shape, but yeah it’s good to start and to win..."
