In what has to be the most publicized backup quarterback battle in recent memory, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance inserted himself back into the public eye and into the competition to backup Trey Lance with a fantastic performance against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. After a disappointing week one preseason game, Lance bounced back in a big way against the Raiders, showing some of that first round talent that he clearly possesses.

Lance finished the afternoon going 15 completions on 23 attempts for 151 yards and a touchdown through air. Lance also showed off some of his running skillset accounting for 34 yards and a touchdown on the ground. While this performance by no means cements his status as the primary backup given how much faith Dallas has in Cooper Rush, it's a good first step for Lance to crawl his way back into relevancy in the NFL after a stunted start to his career.

Week three of the preseason could be key to deciding the backup quarterback battle in Dallas, and both quarterbacks will need to be at the top of their game. Lance has the clear physical upside, but Rush has shown multiple times to be a reliable fill in as needed.
