The Los Angeles Dodgers finished their series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday and took two out of three from the slumping Redbirds.

The team owns the second-best record in the National League at 73-52 and still has hope of finishing at the top. Fortunately, they are about to receive some key reinforcements.

According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers will activate a pair of injured stars on Monday.

"Dodgers will activate Max Muncy and Tommy Edman on Monday," DiGiovanna wrote. "Max is taking some ground balls at 1B today in case he has to fill in there for Freddie Freeman for a few days."

The Dodgers are receiving these reinforcements at just the right time. The team may ultimately be without Freddie Freeman after he injured his finger on Saturday night.

This means that Muncy may ultimately have to fill in at first base. It is unknown at the present moment if Freeman will need to go in the injured list. But if he does, the Dodgers could have Muncy play some first base.

Edman was acquired from the Cardinals in the same deal that landed the Dodgers right-hander Michael Kopech. He has not played this season after undergoing wrist surgery in the offseason.

We'll see how these returns impact the Dodgers. They are currently trying to hold off both the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks in what has turned out to be a tight race for the NL West crown.
