Newly-acquired 49ers star ranked among most underrated players in NFL

The San Francisco 49ers were great last season.

San Francisco has talent all throughout the roster and made a run to the Super Bowl, although it lost against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers entered the offseason looking to reload certain areas of the roster in an attempt to get over the hump in 2024.

The 49ers wanted to add some more help on the edge and cashed in by landing eight-year National Football League veteran Leonard Floyd. The 31-year-old hasn't gotten below nine sacks in a season since 2019 and can help take the 49ers defense to another level.

Floyd has been great in recent seasons but hasn't gotten much recognition. Because of this, he landed on CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin's list of the most underrated players in the National Football League entering the 2024 campaign.

"Did you know that only nine players have logged more sacks than Floyd since 2020? That's right," Benjamin said. "By that metric alone, this man is a top-10 edge rusher. And now, fresh off a career-high 10 1/2 sacks with the Buffalo Bills, he's set to work alongside Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave, and Maliek Collins in the Bay Area. Look out."

There's a lot to like about Floyd's game and he should help improve an area that the 49ers needed a little help. There's no reason the 49ers shouldn't be even better in 2024 than they were in 2023 -- barring a trade involving receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
