Dodgers veteran catcher could be headed to injured list, per insider

Despite owning the second-best record in the National League at 73-52, the Los Angeles Dodgers can't catch a break with all the injuries.

Over the weekend, Tyler Glasnow, who was expected to start the second game of their series in St. Louis was placed on the injured list with elbow tendonitis.

But that wasn't the end of it. On Sunday, backup catcher Austin Barnes fouled a pitch off of his toe, which ultimately caused it to bleed.

On Monday, Dodgers insider David Vassegh revealed some unfortunate news about Barnes.

"Hunter Feduccia will be at Dodger Stadium. Austin Barnes took a foul ball off his left big toe in the third inning yesterday that was bloody and painful," Vassegh tweeted. "Dodgers are considering IL."

While the Dodgers continue to keep their heads above water and remain in the mix, the hits just keep coming. Their pitching staff is decimated with injuries.

To make matters worse, they may ultimately end up being without Freddie Freeman as well, who injured his finger on a ground ball Saturday night.

But losing Barnes certainly hurts. He has been Clayton Kershaw's personal catcher over the last few seasons, and now they'll have to prepare for the possibility of being without their backup catcher for a while.

The 34-year-old is hitting .241 with one home run, eight RBI, and a .602 OPS. The Dodgers still have Will Smith active but may end up having to activate Feduccia and put him on the roster to replace Barnes.

We'll see how much time Barnes is forced to miss.
