Los Angeles Chargers best options for No. 2 QB not currently on the roster

    By Travis Wakeman,

The Los Angeles Chargers have made the necessary moves to set up for one final audition for the backup quarterback job.

Max Duggan and Casey Bauman are both gone. That leaves Easton Stick to take on Luis Perez with the winner getting the backup job to Justin Herbert and the loser wondering about their football future. But could the team move on from both guys?

Because there are going to be better options out there, it should.

Chargers should consider these options following game vs. Dallas Cowboys

    Trade for Taylor Heinicke

Taylor Heinicke has made 29 career starts and he has 39 career touchdown passes. He's a big upgrade over Stick or Perez and with the Atlanta Falcons already having Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr. on the roster, there's no room for the veteran.

The Chargers could pry him away for a late-round draft pick.

    Trade for Tyler Huntley

This would be the same scenario, but perhaps even more enticing since Tyler Huntley has played with Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman before.

The Cleveland Browns have Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson on the roster. Huntley will not make the team and the Browns could get something for him before just waiving him and getting nothing.

    Sign Ryan Tannehill

The veteran and former first-round pick is one of the top names on the open market, waiting for a team to come calling. He is at the stage of his career where he knows his role is as a backup quarterback but his experience makes him exponentially better than what the Chargers currently have.

If the Chargers can't swing a trade for Heinicke or Huntley and they aren't satisfied with Stick or Perez, signing Tannehill remains a distinct possibility to watch for.
