Phillies could land Orioles breakout star in free agency, per insider

The Philadelphia Phillies already are one of the best teams in baseball but likely will look to add to the outfield this upcoming offseason.

Philadelphia is loaded offensively but even it could use a boost. The Phillies aren't afraid to make a major move and MLB.com's Mark Feinsand listed them as a possible landing spot for  Anthony Santander.

"Santander has been a solid player for several years, but he picked the right time to have a career-best season," Feinsand said. "A first-time All-Star this year, Santander has already set a career-high in home runs (37 through Tuesday) and his .834 OPS would be his highest in a 162-game season. As much as he’s meant to the Orioles, Santander is likely to wind up elsewhere because Baltimore has a wealth of young outfield talent and a number of clubs will be seeking a power-hitting corner outfielder. Potential fits: (St. Louis Cardinals), (Cleveland Guardians), (and) Phillies."

Landing Santander could go a long way for the Phillies. He has been a star for Baltimore this season and is slashing .239/.306/.528 with 37 home runs and 82 RBIs in 121 games played. He earned his first All-Star nod this year and is just 29 years old.

If the Phillies could get a deal done with him this winter, it certainly would help improve the Philadelphia lineup. Santander may not be a big-name player, but he can help Philadelphia and it would be surprising to see him back in Baltimore. He likely will get more than the Orioles are willing to spend in free agency, especially with their loaded farm system.
