The San Francisco 49ers may not end up losing a superstar after all this offseason.

It has seemed like star receiver Brandon Aiyuk was going to be traded but it may not be the case any longer. Aiyuk has been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, and Cleveland Browns at different points throughout the summer.

At one point, it seemed like a deal with Pittsburgh was nearing the final stages and Aiyuk would be moved. The 49ers and Aiyuk continued to go back to the negotiating table and now it seems like he may end up staying.

San Francisco and Aiyuk reportedly have made "progress" on a long-term deal that would keep him with the 49ers for the foreseeable future, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

"Sources: The 49ers and WR Brandon Aiyuk had another meeting yesterday and talks continue to progress on a long-term contract extension," Schultz said. "There has been movement on a deal, but there are some minor details that still need to be ironed out with ownership approval."

This doesn't guarantee that Aiyuk ultimately will end up signing on the dotted line and staying in San Francisco, but it is a positive sign. He was the 49ers top receiver last season and is just 26 years old. If the 49ers can get a deal over the finish line, it significantly would help their chances of making another run to the Super Bowl in 2024.
