Red Sox manager Alex Cora believes outfielder Rob Refsnyder will not be retiring this year

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora believes this is not the last year we will see Rob Refsnyder in an MLB uniform, per Masslive’s Chris Cotillo . This is after Rob Refsnyder came out and said he was debating retiring after this season .

“We’re joking with him that this is the last dance,” Cora said, laughing, before Wednesday’s game. “He used to give me stuff before I signed the contract so now it’s my turn,” said Cora. “He used to scream, ‘Here we go, he’s done’ or whatever. Well, he’s done now so... Let’s do it for Ref.”

Cora added how much he wanted Refsnyder back, saying how much baseball Refsnyder had left in him, and how good the presence he brought to the clubhouse was.

“I’m not buying it,” Cora said. “I know what he wants to do in the future. I really do. But I think he’s very productive, he’s a good player. I’m not Craig (Breslow) but that’s a good deal. To have him back would be great. This guy, he’s productive on the field and great in the clubhouse. Very structured, keeps getting better in the offseason and works on his craft. Refsnyder has played in 77 games with the Sox this season, and has an average of .299, 38 RBI, and eight homers. It would be great to have Refsnyder back next year, for his bat and to help mentor the new young guys coming up the pipeline, like Roman Anthony.
