Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The Red Devils have highlighted the Uruguayan international as their final transfer target of the transfer window which slams shut on August 30.

Despite some progression in talks with the Ligue 1 champions, United are yet to reach a breakthrough, as PSG remain set on their £51m ($67m) asking price.

That figure falls outside of United's current range, with Erik ten Hag angling for a deal closer to £42m ($55m), as negotiations continue between the two clubs.

One possible solution to break the deadlock could be via a loan-to-buy agreement according to Sky Sports expert Florian Plettenerg with Ugarte keen to make the move to Manchester.

The Daily Mail claims a season-long loan, with a £51m ($67m) mandatory purchase clause in 2025, is PSG's final offer to allow United enough space to pull together the fee.

A compromise could be reached, but United are keen to delay payment to remain on track within the Premier League's financial guidelines, but they may need to meet PSG in the middle to get a deal wrapped up.
