The Detroit Lions had an injury scare at practice on Wednesday after star right tackle Penei Sewell exited early.

According to multiple reports , Sewell exited after suffering a foot injury, although he was able to walk off under his power, which was certainly a good sign. We still don't know exactly what is wrong with his foot.

We do know, however, that it appears Sewell and the Lions have dodged a bullet. Per ESPN's Eric Woodyard , Sewell rolled his ankle and the results of his MRI showed nothing serious and he's going to be fine.

Sewell has been impressively durable over the first three seasons of his career, with the Oregon product missing just one game in 2021 due to illness.

The Lions have been bitten by the injury bug hard over the past few weeks, with many key players getting banged-up. Thankfully, head coach Dan Campbell has provided positive updates on many of those players since.

“As of right now, I think there’s a good chance we’re going to have most of our guys ready for Week 1,” Campbell said on Tuesday, per Pride of Detroit's Erik Schlitt .

“Ennis (Rakestraw) will be back out there today (Tuesday). Carlton Davis will be limited today, Amik (Robertson) will be limited today, and (Terrion) Arnold will not be back (today)," Campbell continued. "I think there’s a chance we could get him middle of the week, next week—get in a practice before the guys go on their break. But, he is trending the right way, I’m not concerned.”

“We’re hoping the day after the Pittsburgh game (which will be played on Saturday)—I think we’re going to get a lot of guys back,” Campbell added. “We’re shooting for Skip (Dan Skipper), (Kevin) Zeitler, (Sam) LaPorta, (Jahmyr) Gibbs, Rodrigo (Malcolm Rodriguez), and I think we may start (DJ) Reader up too. Start working him in individuals. So we’re hoping to get a whole group of guys back on Sunday.”

The Lions will play their final preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. After that, they'll have two weeks to get prepared for the regular-season opener on Sunday, Sept. 8.
