Roughly a week ago, the Boston Red Sox got Triston Casas back in their lineup after the first baseman missed about four months due to injury.

With that move, the Red Sox opened a roster spot by designating first baseman and fan favorite Dom Smith for assignment. And, after Smith cleared waivers he was released, and he took some time to thank the fans in a post on social media .

Now, just days later, Smith has found a new team, as ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that Smith is signing with the Cincinnati Reds.

The 29-year-old hit .237 with a .706 OPS, six home runs and 34 RBIs in 83 games with Boston this year.

Cincinnati is 5.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, so it will be tough for them to catch up and make the postseason, but it would be great to get some big Dom Smith moments in playoff baseball.
