Mariners expected to shake up coaching staff with Scott Servais reportedly on way out

The Seattle Mariners have begun to fall apart this month. After once holding a 10-game lead in the American League West, they now trail the Houston Astros by five games.

Seattle has dropped to the .500 mark, and they now sit 7 1/2 games back of the third and final AL Wild Card spot.

This has prompted some changes to take place, and it is starting with the coaching staff, according to Ken Rosenthal and Marc Carig.

"The Seattle Mariners' stunning collapse has prompted a change in leadership, with the club expected to replace manager Scott Servais with Dan Wilson, sources briefed on the Mariners' plans told The Athletic. The official announcement is expected on Thursday."

This is a big change for the Mariners. Servais has been the team's manager since 2016. He helped guide the Mariners back to the postseason in 2022 and has even guided them to three straight winning seasons.

However, they had a firm grasp on the AL West earlier this season and have since lost their way. They're going to need a major turnaround in order to avoid missing the postseason for the second consecutive year.

The offense has been the main culprit for the Mariners struggles in 2024. The pitching staff has carried the team, but the offense has been unable provide run support.

And so, this has led to a managerial change. Seattle has 34 games left in the season and will need a major run in order to reach the postseason. Perhaps the change in leadership could lead them to turn things around as the 2024 season nears its end.
