The NBA offseason has reached a dull point with free agency, the draft and Olympic competition completed and preseason over a month away.

It's time for the rumor mill and trade speculation to crowd the news cycle. Stephen Curry is one of the recent victims of the NBA's year-round scuttlebutt.

The four-time NBA champion and two-time NBA MVP is rumored to have requested a trade from the Golden State Warriors. Fans have pieced together this belief based on the superstar's social media activity .

It can be hard to gauge what rumors hold validity, so the Sporting News breaks down the latest on Curry's rumored trade request.

Did Stephen Curry request a trade?

No, Curry has not requested a trade despite rumors and fake reports saying otherwise.

The 10-time NBA All-Star is under contract with Golden State throughout the 2025-26 season and has not said anything about leaving the organization. The expectation has long been that Curry will play his entire career with the Warriors, though that could still change.

The trade rumors began because Curry removed "Guard for the @Warriors" from his bio and replaced it with "Olympic Gold Medalist." Curry fan page @GameOnSteph_ on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out the change following the Olympics.

There isn't a confirmed reason why Curry removed the Warriors from his bio, but it sparked discussion on social media. Fans recalled just a couple of months ago Klay Thompson wiped his Instagram of Warriors content as he parted ways with the organization.

Curry hasn't gone that far, so it may not be that severe. It also could simply mean the Warriors guard wanted to keep his bio short and valued his first Olympic gold medal over the team affiliation.

He also uploaded a collaborative post with LeBron James that included two photos of Curry, James and Kevin Durant. Durant was tagged in the photos but wasn't included as a collaborator.

The post added fuel to the already hot rumors about James and Curry teaming up one day. The two had high praise for each other while playing together at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It doesn't help that news recently broke that Rich Paul reportedly implored the Warriors and Lakers not to make a trade involving James during the 2023-24 season.

All of this led to a fake post by the parody account "NBA Centel" on X. The page claimed Curry requested a trade, citing a fake Chris Haynes account.

The post received 2.4 million views and over 27,000 likes. "NBA Centel" has become fairly well-known so most people realize it's fake, but there are some people who may get played by the trickster.
