Packers veteran in danger of being cut with 2024 season approaching

The Green Bay Packers will have to make some difficult decisions in the not-so-distant future.

Green Bay clearly will be busy over the next few weeks. The 2024 National Football League regular season will kick off soon and the Packers will have to trim down the roster ahead of Week 1 action.

The Packers could end up parting ways with some veterans and Deadspin's Mike Sullivan suggested that guard Royce Newman could end up being on the chopping block.

"(Guard) Royce Newman, Packers," Sullivan said. "He looked like a solid fourth-round pick when he started 16 games in 2021, but his production slipped, and he has started just eight of 34 contests over the past two seasons. Green Bay picked three offensive linemen in the 2024 draft, so a numbers game will ensue, and someone off last year's team is going packing."

Newman was selected by the Packers in the fourth round of the 2021 National Football League Draft and has been with the Packers ever since. He was a starter in his rookie year but has been more of a depth piece over the last two seasons.

The veteran guard appeared in all 17 games with the Packers last season but started just two games. With the 2024 campaign quickly approaching, the Packers will have to make some tough roster choices and at this point, it wouldn't be too shocking to see Green Bay part ways with Newman.
