The Chicago Bears got some rough news on Saturday.

Chicago signed undrafted rookie running back Ian Wheeler this spring and he was fighting for a spot on the roster. Unfortunately, he will miss the entire 2024 season as he was placed on the Injured Reserve on Saturday after suffering a torn ACL in Thursday's preseason finale, according to the Chicago Tribune's Dan Wiederer.

"Bears undrafted rookie (running back) Ian Wheeler will heading to injured reserve after suffering an ACL tear," Wiederer said.

It's unclear whether or not Wheeler was going to make the Bears' active roster, but now he won't have a chance to see what he can do. He played his college football at Howard University and racked up just under 1,200 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns throughout his career. He also thrived as a return specialist in college.

There's a lot to like about the Bears this season and their offense has received a major lift. Chicago drafted rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze. The Bears also added Keenan Allen and D'Andre Swift. Wheeler likely wouldn't have played a large role in the offense with Swift in town, but he possibly could've earned a depth role or return role.

It's unclear what could've happened, but hopefully, he will be able to make a full recovery and fight for a spot on the roster next year when his knee is healed.
